API 5L Grade B Pipe Specification (PSL1, PSL2)
API 5L Grade B pipe is a general-purpose grade pipe used for oil and gas pipeline transportation. Also known as L245 pipe, referenced ISO 3183, named for the minimum yield strength of 245 MPa (35,500 Psi). Equivalent materials ASTM A106 B or ASTM A53 B, have similar values in chemical composition, mechanical properties and applications.
Iron is the main material of API 5L Grade B psl1 steel pipe, followed by alloying elements such as 0.30% carbon, 1.20% manganese, 0.40% copper, 0.40% nickel, 0.40% chromium, 0.15% molybdenum. Phosphorus, sulfur and vanadium content are present in trace amounts.
API 5L B seamless carbon steel pipe is not prone to cracking under sulfide stress and is an ideal choice for sour environments. The minimum yield strength of the tube is 245 MPa or approximately 35,500 psi.
