A252 is applicable to round steel pipe piles expressed in nominal (average) wall thickness, and steel pipe piles used as permanent load-bearing members or as cast-in-place concrete pile forms. A252 steel pipe piles may be manufactured by any of the following methods: seamless, electric resistance welding, flash welding, welding, etc. For welded steel pipe piles, the welds may be straight or of spiral butt weld or spiral lap weld construction, and shall be such that when the steel pipe pile is used for its final purpose and if the operation and installation during use are normal, the welds shall not rupture.
