ASTM A333 Gr.6 is the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standard for seamless steel tubing for cryogenic applications (ASTM A333/A333M). ASTM A333 Gr.6 is a standard for seamless pipe for cryogenic applications (ASTM A333/A333M) developed by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) for use in very low-temperature environments in the range of -45°C to -195°C, such as liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage and transport, cryogenic heat exchangers, and other high-pressure vessel piping systems.
Its core properties include:
Low-temperature toughness: Composition optimisation and heat treatment processes avoid brittle fracture at low temperatures, guaranteeing safety in extreme environments.
Nickel-free design: Earlier versions were nickel-free carbon-manganese steels, and after 2016 the standard was updated to allow for the addition of trace alloying elements (e.g., Cr, Ni, etc.), while still maintaining low-alloy properties.

Heat treatment requirements for SA 333 GR 6 tube:
1. Normalizing above 815°C.
2. Normalizing above 815°C, then tempering.
3. Hot forming between 845-945°C, then furnace cooling above 845°C (applicable only to seamless tubes).
4. Tempering after processing.
5. Quenching above 815°C, then tempering.

- Welding process: Low hydrogen welding consumables and preheating are required to prevent cold cracking in the weld area.
- Corrosion protection: Additional surface coating or cathodic protection is required when exposed to wet or corrosive environments.
