Square lock nuts are fasteners with a special design to prevent threads from loosening.
Square lock nuts have a square appearance and are usually easier to tighten with tools such as wrenches than ordinary nuts. They may contain multiple locking claws or other anti-loosening mechanisms such as nylon inserts to provide additional tightening force.
By rotating the nut itself, making the locking claws contact the threads, or creating additional friction between the nut and the bolt, square lock nuts can maintain the stability of threaded connections under vibration or load.
The size specifications of square lock nuts are usually expressed by their nominal diameter (such as M6, M8, M10, etc.) and pitch (such as 1.0, 1.5, etc.). For example, a square lock nut of M6×1.0 means that its nominal diameter is 6 mm and the pitch is 1.0 mm.
