ASTM A179 carbon steel pipe is made of low carbon steel. Due to the chemical composition and mechanical performance characteristics of low carbon steel, ASTM A179 boiler pipe has excellent weldability, good ductility and high thermal conductivity. These characteristics make this kind of pipe widely used in boilers, heat exchangers, condensers and other equipment in various industries such as chemical, petrochemical, and power generation.
The maximum operating temperature of ASTM A179 boiler tube is approximately 350°C (662°F), and these tubes are generally suitable for low and medium temperature applications.
The elemental composition of ASTM A179 seamless steel pipe contains a certain range of manganese (Mn) content, usually between 0.27% and 0.63%. This element increases the strength and hardness of steel and increases its resistance to corrosion. The contents of phosphorus (P) and sulfur (S) are also strictly limited, each not exceeding 0.035%. Carbon (C) content ranges from 0.06% to 0.18% to maintain the strength and hardness of steel. The minimum yield strength is 26 Ksi 180 Mpa, the minimum tensile strength is 47 Ksi 325 Mpa, and the corresponding pipe outer diameter when the minimum stretch rate is 35% is 2 inches or 50 mm (about 1.97 inches). In terms of size, SA 179 Seamless carbon steel pipe is available in outside diameters ranging from 1/8 inch to 3 inches, or 3.2 mm to 76.2 mm. Hot-rolled and cold-drawn manufacturing processes can be used, seamless, with flat ends, beveled ends or couplings, etc.
