The ASTM A179 (SA 179) standard specification covers seamless cold-drawn low-carbon steel tubes used in tubular heat exchangers, condensers, and other similar heat transfer equipment.

ASME SA179 Carbon Steel Boiler Pipes
ASTM A179 steel pipe is produced using a seamless cold drawn process.
A179 cold drawn steel pipes also need to go through a specific heat treatment process, usually a heat treatment of at least 1200 degrees Fahrenheit (or 650 degrees Celsius) after the last cold drawing is completed.
The finished pipe should have no scaling and a small amount of oxides as scaling. It should also undergo a flattening and expansion test, a flange test, a hardness test, and a hydraulic test.
