Advantages & Disadvantages of Galvanized Steel Pipes
● Advantages:
Enhanced performance: The galvanized coating improves pipe durability and extends service life while maintaining low cost.
Hot-dip galvanized pipes offer additional benefits such as uniform coating thickness and strong adhesion.
● Disadvantages:
Rust accumulation: When used as water pipes, galvanized pipes develop heavy rust scale over time, releasing yellowish water that stains fixtures and harbors bacteria due to rough inner surfaces.
Health risks: Rust corrosion increases heavy metal content in water, posing serious health hazards.
Cold-dip galvanized pipes have less zinc coating, significantly poorer corrosion resistance than hot-dip galvanized pipes. Their zinc layer is thin, loosely bonded, and prone to peeling due to weak adhesion to the steel base.
