Is P235GH stainless steel
1. Material Classification
P235GH belongs to carbon steel/non-alloy steel, not stainless steel.
The executive standard is EN 10028-2, material number 1.0345, suitable for pressure vessels, boilers and other high temperature (≤ 400 ℃) equipment.
Chemical composition of carbon (C) ≤ 0.16%, manganese (Mn) 0.60% ~ 1.20% as the main, does not contain chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni) and other stainless steel core alloying elements.
2. Performance and application scenarios
Mechanical properties:
Yield strength: 235~170 MPa (decreasing with thickness)
Tensile strength: 360~480 MPa
Elongation ≥ 25%, excellent welding performance, suitable for complex structure manufacturing.
Typical uses: petrochemical storage tanks, boiler pipes, heat exchangers, etc., relying on its high strength, high temperature resistance and processing performance, rather than corrosion resistance.
3. Comparison with stainless steel
| Chromium (Cr) content | ≤0.30%(Non-major alloying elements) | ≥18%(Formation of a protective layer of chromium oxide) |
| corrosion resistance | General (additional corrosion protection required) | Excellent (natural corrosion resistance) |
| core application | Pressure vessels, high-temperature piping | Food processing and chemical preservation equipment |
P235GH is a carbon/non-alloy steel, not a stainless steel, and is designed to meet the mechanical properties required for medium to high temperature service, not to provide corrosion resistance.
