High-pressure ball valves were first introduced in the 1950s. With the rapid advancement of science and technology, and continuous improvements in production processes and product structure, they have rapidly developed into a major valve type in just 40 years.
High-pressure ball valves are primarily used to shut off or connect media in pipelines, and can also be used for fluid regulation and control. The strong shear force between the V-shaped ball and the carbide-clad metal seat of the hard-sealed V-type ball valve makes it particularly suitable for media containing fibers and fine solid particles. Multi-way ball valves not only flexibly control the confluence, diversion, and flow direction of media in pipelines, but can also close any one channel while connecting the other two. This type of valve is generally installed horizontally in pipelines.

 

Working Principle of High-Pressure Ball Valves

High-pressure ball valves feature a 90-degree rotational motion. The plug body is a spherical ball with a circular through-hole or channel running through its axis. Ball valves are primarily used in pipelines to shut off, distribute, and change the flow direction of media. They require only a 90-degree rotation and minimal torque to achieve a tight seal. Ball valves are most suitable for use as on/off and shut-off valves, but recent developments have enabled ball valves to be designed for throttling and flow control, such as V-shaped ball valves.

High-pressure ball valves are characterized by their compact structure, reliable sealing, simple construction, and easy maintenance. The sealing surface and the ball surface are always in a closed position, making them less susceptible to erosion by the medium. They are easy to operate and maintain. They are suitable for general working media such as water, solvents, acids, and natural gas, as well as for media with harsh working conditions such as oxygen, hydrogen peroxide, methane, and ethylene. They are widely used in various industries. Ball valve bodies can be either one-piece or modular.

Advantages of High-Pressure Ball Valves

1. Low fluid resistance: Full-bore ball valves offer virtually no flow resistance.
2. Simple structure, compact size, and light weight.
3. Tight and reliable. They have two sealing surfaces, and the sealing surfaces are made of a wide variety of plastics, providing excellent sealing and achieving a complete seal. They are also widely used in vacuum systems.
4. They are easy to operate and open and close quickly. A simple 90° rotation from fully open to fully closed facilitates remote control. 5. Easy maintenance: The ball valve has a simple structure, and the sealing ring is generally removable, making it easy to disassemble and replace.
6. When fully open or fully closed, the sealing surfaces of the ball and valve seat are isolated from the medium, preventing erosion of the valve sealing surfaces when the medium passes through.
7. Wide range of applications: diameters range from a few millimeters to several meters, and can be used in applications from high vacuum to high pressure.
8. Because the ball valve has a wiping effect during opening and closing, it can be used in media containing suspended solid particles.
