  • Main Chemical Composition Differences

ASTM A179: This is a kind of cold-drawn low carbon seamless steel tube for heat exchangers and condensers, whose chemical composition mainly includes carbon (0.06%-0.18%), manganese (0.27%-0.63%), phosphorus (maximum 0.25%), sulphur (maximum 0.20%) as well as trace elements such as nickel and chromium.

ASTM A210: This is a seamless medium carbon steel tube for boilers and superheaters with a different chemical composition from A179, specifically including carbon, silicon, manganese, phosphorus, sulphur as well as chromium and molybdenum, etc. The range of content of these elements allows A210 to meet higher requirements in terms of mechanical properties.

  • Mechanical Property Differences

ASTM A179: With its low carbon content, it is suitable for applications requiring good cold workability, such as heat exchangers and condensers.

ASTM A210: Has higher strength and wear resistance due to its medium carbon content and is suitable for high temperature and high pressure equipment such as boilers and superheaters.

  • Differences in application areas

ASTM A179: Mainly used in low or medium temperature applications such as heat exchangers and condensers.
ASTM A210: Widely used in high temperature and high pressure equipment such as boilers and superheaters due to its excellent mechanical properties.
