Heat treatment (annealing) of stainless steel capillary tubes
For 304/304L stainless steel, it cannot be hardened by heat treatment itself. But its tensile strength and hardness can be enhanced through cold working, such as stretching, bending or twisting. When it comes to annealing, the temperature is typically set between 1850°F and 2050°F. The main purpose of annealing is to soften the material and improve its plasticity. But importantly, because this material is prone to oxidation at high temperatures, it needs to be cooled quickly. For heavier parts, water cooling is recommended, while for lighter parts, air cooling is recommended.
