Structural Steel Pipe Description
Seamless structural steel pipes are primarily made of carbon steel, alloy steel, and stainless steel, complying with international standards such as ASTM A53, ASTM A519, ASTM A500, ASTM A252, JIS G3441/G3445, and EN 10210/10297.
The production process includes hot rolling (extrusion) and cold drawing (rolling). Cold-drawn pipes can be manufactured in circular and special-shaped profiles, with outer diameters ranging from 6 to 1,200 mm and wall thicknesses from 1 to 200 mm.
The pipes undergo quality inspections such as eddy current testing and magnetic particle testing to ensure compliance with standards.
These pipes are widely used in structural applications, including bridges, buildings, power plant boilers, petrochemical equipment, and have been applied in offshore oil & gas development and ultra-deep well drilling.
During manufacturing, cold drawing technology is employed, combined with improved bore cleaning devices to enhance surface quality.
Manufacturing Process of Seamless Structural Steel Pipes
The production of seamless structural steel pipes primarily involves piercing, rolling, and sizing. A metal billet is heated to an appropriate temperature and then perforated through a piercing mill to form a hollow shell. The shell undergoes multiple rolling passes to adjust dimensions and wall thickness before being cooled and finished into the final product.
This process ensures continuity and uniformity in the pipe without requiring splicing or welding, as in welded pipes. In contrast, welded pipes have a simpler production process and lower cost but may suffer from uneven welds or stress concentration issues.

Products Packaging
Structural steel pipes are typically delivered in bundles, with each bundle consisting pipes from the same heat number. The weight per bundle usually should not exceed 5 tons, but this limit may be exceeded upon mutual agreement between the supplier and purchaser. Additionally, pipes with an outer diameter exceeding 159 mm or special-shaped pipes with a cross-sectional perimeter exceeding 500 mm may be delivered in loose form.
When bundling, pipes must be securely fastened using steel strapping or wire, with the number of fastening turns complying with regulations. One end of each bundle should be neatly aligned, while short-length pipes must be bundled and packaged separately. For pipes delivered in cut-to-length or multiple-length sizes, any non-cut-to-length or non-multiple-length pipes included in the delivery must also be bundled and packaged separately.
Upon request, a protective coating may be applied to the pipe surface using corrosion-resistant materials that are easy to apply and remove. Each threaded pipe should have a coupling screwed onto one end, with its threads and machined surfaces coated with antirust oil or other protective agents. A thread protector must also be screwed onto the pipe end and internal threads. If requested by the purchaser, seamless pipes may be fitted with plastic end caps at both ends.
