Who is ASTM?
Founded in 1898, ASTM International is one of the world's largest international standards-setting organizations.
At ASTM International, producers, users, consumers and others from around the world work together to develop voluntary consensus standards. The ASTM standards development process follows the principles of the World Trade Organization's Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade. ASTM's standard-setting process is open and transparent, allowing individuals and governments to participate directly and equally in global consensus decision-making.
Thirty thousand ASTM members from 125 countries bring their technical expertise to develop ASTM's 12,000 international standards. These standards are used and accepted worldwide and cover areas such as metals, paints, plastics, textiles, petroleum, construction, energy, environment, consumer products, medical services and equipment, and electronics.
ASTM material standards are developed by the American Society for Testing and Materials. ASTM material standards can include the chemical, mechanical, physical and electrical properties of materials. These standards include a description of the testing methods performed on construction materials, as well as the size and shape of those materials. Construction materials such as concrete must meet ASTM standards before they can be used in construction. Among them, ASTM A53 and ASTM A106 are widely used.
Who is ASME?
Founded in 1880 as the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, ASME International is today a nonprofit educational and technical organization with more than 120,000 members worldwide.
ASME material standards are standards from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. ASME material specifications are based on specifications published by ASTM, AWS, and other recognized national and international standards. Compliance with ASME standards is required by law when building infrastructure such as bridges, power plant piping, and boilers. Among them ASME B16.5 is widely used.

They are three different standardization organizations, and each standard has its own system. Among them, the American standard system has the most extensive influence and application.
Among them, ASME standards and ANSI standards cover most industrial fields, including materials, processing, technology, testing, etc. ASME references many ANSI and ASTM standards. For pipes and pipe fittings, these three are basically unified, commonly known as American standard pipes, pipe fittings, pipe accessories (flanges, gaskets, etc.), of which the ASME/ANSI standard is the most used.
