1.4404 is a stainless steel material, also known as 316L pipe. It includes chromium (16%), nickel (10%), molybdenum (2%) and iron (72%). This material's high strength, corrosion resistance, and high temperature resistance make it widely used in manufacturing machinery, chemical equipment, and medical devices. In addition, DIN 1.4404 Electropolished Pipes are also suitable for marine applications and are used in the construction of ships and submersibles, etc. due to their anti-rust properties. The material is an excellent alternative to more costly materials and provides long-term reliability and service life in many areas.

1.4404 is a low carbon grade of 1.4401 steel. It shows good acid resistance. It is not susceptible to grain boundary carbide precipitation and therefore is not affected by sensitization. It is mainly used for welded parts thicker than 0.2 inches. The austenitic structure also provides the strong toughness of these stainless steel grades, even at lower temperatures down to absolute zero (-273 degrees Celsius). Its carbon content is lower than its family grade 1.4401 steel counterpart. Although 1.4404 has a lower carbon content, it is very similar to 1.4401 in most commercial and industrial applications. Importantly, the two related grades also cost nearly the same, offer long service life, and are an excellent choice for stress center type applications.
