1. Scope

Applications:

Suitable for ‌boiler tubes, flue tubes‌, including ‌safety ends, domes, support tubes‌, and ‌superheater tubes‌.

Size Range:

Typically covers ‌OD from 1/2 inch to 5 inches (12.7 mm to 127 mm)‌ and ‌minimum wall thickness from 0.035 inch to 0.500 inch (0.9 mm to 12.7 mm)‌.

Other sizes may be provided if ‌all other requirements‌ of the standard are met.

Mechanical performance requirements do not apply‌ to tubes with ‌ID < 1/8 inch (3.2 mm)‌ or ‌thickness < 0.015 inch (0.4 mm)‌.

2. Chemical Composition

Grade A-1:

C ≤ 0.27%‌, ‌Mn ≤ 0.93%‌, ‌Si ≥ 0.1%‌, ‌P ≤ 0.035%‌, ‌S ≤ 0.035%‌.

Grade C:

C ≤ 0.35%‌, ‌Mn 0.29–1.06%‌, ‌Si ≥ 0.1%‌, ‌P ≤ 0.035%‌, ‌S ≤ 0.035%‌.

3. Mechanical Properties

Tensile Strength:

Grade A-1: ≥415 MPa

Grade C: ≥485 MPa

Yield Strength:

Grade A-1: ≥255 MPa

Grade C: ≥275 MPa

Elongation:

Both grades: ≥30%

4. Manufacturing Process

Forming:

Seamless process‌ ensures structural integrity and uniformity for ‌high-temperature and high-pressure environments‌.

Heat Treatment:

Required as per grade and end-use‌, with methods determined accordingly.

5. Inspection & Testing

Tensile Test:

1 sample per batch ≤50 tubes; 2 samples per batch >50 tubes‌.

Flattening Test:

1 sample per batch‌ (not used for flaring), tested at ‌both ends‌.

For ‌Grade C tubes ≤2.375 inches (60.3 mm)‌, ‌tears/cracks at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock are not grounds for rejection‌.

Flaring Test:

1 sample per batch‌ (not used for flattening), tested at ‌both ends‌.

Hardness Test:

2 samples per batch‌ for ‌Brinell or Rockwell hardness‌.

Hydrostatic Test or NDT:

Every tube must undergo hydrostatic testing‌, unless ‌NDT is specified by the buyer‌.

6. Marking

Tubes must be marked with ‌standard number, grade, size, production lot, and heat number‌ for traceability and quality control.
