API 5L carbon steel pipe is a seamless or welded steel pipe produced in accordance with the American Petroleum Institute (API) 5L specification and is mainly used for the transportation of oil, natural gas and water. PSL 1 is a level in the API 5L specification, which means that the mechanical properties and material requirements of the pipe meet the first level requirements of the API 5L specification. API 5L PSL 2 GR.B carbon steel pipes are available in sizes ranging from 1/2" to 48" NB (nominal bore diameter) and in specifications from Sch 10 to XXS (extra strong). The yield strength of these steel pipes is a minimum of 245MPa (35,500 psi) and a maximum of 450MPa (65,300 psi), depending on the grade.
API 5L specifications standardize pipeline transportation systems for the natural gas and oil industries and are widely applicable to the transportation of gas, oil, and water. X42, API 5L line pipe is used to construct the entire pipeline, unlike casing and tubing.
